Summer Styles

Flooring trends normally only hang around for a few years before going out of style. Five years ago, seemingly every customer who walked through the door wanted grey luxury vinyl plank. Now we sell almost none. The most important thing to remember about picking your floors is that you will have to live with your decision.

If you look at our most popular flooring recently, you’ll see a lot of light brown colours. Walnut, and honey brown tones are very in. White oak is definitely our top seller right now however. These warm, earthy tones pair really well with white palettes that have been pretty standard in the last 10 years. These mid-tone stains offer longevity due to how well they compliment a variety of decor styles.

In the past, we’ve seen a high volume of high-gloss flooring in both wood and tile products. While glossy marble tile is timeless, we have seen most customers opt for matte, or textured finishes with all of their flooring. Most of this is aesthetic preference, but textured finishes have some benefits as well. Gloss flooring does a poor job of hiding scratches and damage. Additionally, the textured finish creates a natural, organic look that is highly sought after.

Patterns are a tricky thing to predict in flooring. Inlaid patterns can be a stunning addition to a home but you may get tired of them after a short period. Herringbone and chevron wood patterns are making a massive resurgence at the moment. These styles are somewhat polarizing. These styles draw more attention to the floors than usual. While a herringbone hardwood in a warm tone looks beautiful, some people report getting tired of them very after a year or two.

The type of flooring that people are putting in their homes hasn’t really changed much. We still see a lot of LVP and hardwood. Tile or LVP are still bathroom staples. Carpet seems to be dipping a little bit but due to the advancements in carpet recently, it’s difficult to not include it in the home. Carpet manufactured today has phenomenal stain and wear resistance backed by multi-year warranty. While the days of wall to wall carpet in almost every room are in the past, I would still recommend carpet for any basement project.

To wrap things up, trends in flooring come and go faster than your floors do. What matters most at the end of the day is that you love your floors. Our expert sales team will provide you with all the insight and knowledge that you need to pick floors that you will treasure for years. We want to work with you!
